Howdy all,

Sorry for the long downtime, I musta had my saddle on backwards or somethin' because everything that could go wrong did. Anyhow, we got things all tidied up and in the process, shipped out a few new bits to ya.

The main thing is that there's now a "Detail" slider on the options panel (press escape any time yer not in a game), which you can use to try turnin' off some of the fancy graphical bits if things are runnin' too slow.

We'll be doing more along these lines and also looking into automatically setting the detail level to something smart based on how good yer machine looks when we first run the game.

In the meanwhile, let us know whether it helps out or not.

Unfortunately, it wont run under OS X and I even tried installing on Virtual PC, which resulted in a complete failure (errored out whining about not finding valid pixel format)
Guess I'll check back next week to see if I can play again, but it's a bit dissapointing to have just downloaded and started playing the game last night and already seeing some real big issues.
But I do software and I know how it can be.

Keep up the good work and get that OS X version back up and running.

okay I got this update, and it loaded and ran even smoother when I used the lowest detail settings. I mean going into town, checking the shops, things like that.
Loading the puzzle was better too. (I mean a match-up)
I tried doing a 1 person, 1 unit, 1 tin can game. (Basically minimum of everything) and I actually got a few more moves, to start off with, and it ran better... however after a little bit, it would slow down again, causing me to lose. (they ended up with like 600 points, I got like 13.)
then, waiting for the winning screen (1st, 2nd) the portraits wouldn't load. After a bit, the game crashed to desktop. I managed to notice I only got 49, instead of the usual 50 scrip. I haven't gone back to check if it was for sure just 49. I plan on doing so shortly.

Okay, enough of my long post. If it helps, I don't know, but I thought I would share my experience thus far.

The lower graphics setting is/was an awesome idea, I hope it works for most folks. Unfortunately, once I got into a game, CPU maxed, and there was no difference from before.

I did notice that the mem usuage isn't spiking as much.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce 4 Go420 driver v. 3.2.3.0 on a Toshiba Notebook P4 2.4Ghz Win XP SP2, 512MB RAM.

I am unsure how much memory is allocated to the video card, though I am guessing it's only 32mb (and probably why I can't play). I have tried looking in the BIOS to increase the allocation but I didn't see anywhere to modify the setting.

Thank you MDB for workin' with us and helpin' some of us play. :D

Yup same with me. Now I want to lose 4 more games so my scrip can be a nice multiple of 5 again :(

Furthermore, winning only seems to be worth 68 now. I got 204 scrips for winning a 3-round game against a Tin Can. Also, it seems the reward after a game with less than 4 units, depends on how many points you score, though that's probably intentional.

I've been trying to get the OS X version to work for the last day or so and have so far discovered that it appears to be tied to an OpenGL issue based on what video card you have installed. On a Mac mini with an ATI chipset, it installs and runs fine. On an iMac G5 and a PowerMac G5 with NVidia cards, it opens to a blank screen and then closes a few moments later. So, I'm not saying that's a 100% guarantee, but it is definitely a possibility.

I'm running a PowerMac G5 with an ATI Radeon 9650
and a PowerBook with an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600
Both give the blank screen and quit.

Perhaps your Mac Mini is an Intel CoreDuo?
But from what I've seen, it's definitely OpenGL Related.

The Mac mini is definitely PPC, but I'm hearing posts from others saying their ATI cards are not working, and so are you, so it's obviously something different that's allowing my cousin's computer to work, when mine does not.

Well, this explains a lot.

Mac mini. Runs fine. In fact, very smooth, nice, fast, responsive, etc.

Two player, 10 total units. Very nice response the entire game.

However: In town, the "light up when you mouse over" effect only really affects the "general store" on the right -- only the dark surfaces light up, and for any other building there's little or no darkness.

I noticed no difference when setting the detail to low. I'm on a GeForce4 MX 420, 512 RAM, and 2.0 GHZ processor. I know it's the card, just thought I'd let you know I didn't notice much of a dif.

I'll keep leeching other people's computers 'til the next attempt.
